Ambroise Paré et la grenouille
Au XVIème siècle, Ambroise Paré a décrit la naissance d’un enfant “ à tête de grenouille ”. L’apparition de la malformation a été expliquée par le fait que la mère, malade, a fait l’objet d’un traitement médical qui impliquait de tenir une grenouille en main. Il est postulé que l’anomalie décrite ici correspondait à une macrostomie, anomalie due à un défaut de fusion des bourgeons maxillaire et mandibulaire. Nous présentons ici un spécimen post mortem de macrostomie ayant fait l’objet d’une exploration tomodensitométrique. Le diagnostic différentiel avec une cyclotocéphalie est discuté. Ambroise Paré and the frog
During the XVIth century, Ambroise Paré described the birth of a child with a “ frog head ”. The occurrence of the malformation was explained by a “ medical ” treatment, which implied that the mother must take a frog in her hand. It was supposed that the abnormality could be a macrostomia, due to a lack of fusion of maxillar and mandibular buds. We present here a postmortem specimen of macrostomia, with CT scanner exploration. Differential diagnosis with a cyclotocephaly is discussed. Rev Med Brux 2006 ; 27 : 533-5
