L’Académie Internationale de Cytologie a été fondée à Bruxelles en 1957. Elle consacre ses activités à la promotion de la cytologie clinique et publie un journal Acta Cytologica mondialement diffusé. Ce n’est pas par hasard si cette fondation a eu lieu à Bruxelles. La qualité et l’importance des travaux de l’école belge de cytologie clinique, et notamment ceux de l’Université Libre de Bruxelles, ont été une raison de choisir Bruxelles comme siège de cette fondation. Fifty years ago, the International Academy of Cytology , a scientific society devoted to the promotion of clinical cytology and the publication of a bimonthly journal, was founded in Brussels. The choice of Brussels did not happen by chance : the quality and the importance of the scientific work of the Belgian school of clinical cytology, particularly the one of the Université Libre de Bruxelles, justified this choice.
