La périnatologie : une médecine particulière
La périnatologie est une discipline en plein développement où se prennent des décisions particulièrement difficiles et graves parce qu’elles engagent la vie d’un enfant et l’avenir de sa famille. Les questions qui s’y posent sont à l’articulation de différentes spécialités médicales, chirurgicales, psychologiques, éthiques, et requièrent leurs expériences complémentaires. La transmission interprofessionnelle et le travail en équipe est indispensable pour assurer la meilleure cohérence et continuité des soins possibles tant dans la prise en charge de la mère que du nouveau-né, et tant en anté- qu’en postnatal. Le couple obstétrico-néonatal, de par son alliance naturelle, est l’interlocuteur privilégié des parents. Il aide à construire leur parentalité, apporte une vision moins orientée sur la pathologie foetale et une image plus acceptable de leur nouveau-né dans sa globalité.

Perinatology : an uncommon type of medicine
Perinatology is a developing medical field where decisions are particularly difficult and may be harmful in that they deal with the life of an infant and the future of the families. It deals with matters that are at cross boards of several medical specialties belonging to medicine and surgery but also relevant to psychology and ethics. Therefore, a collaborative approach is required. Interprofessional exchanges and a team organization are warranted in order to make handling consistent and allow a fruitful follow up. This holds true for the mother and the newborn throughout the pregnancy, delivery and early life. It seems important to us that the parents face with a couple obstetrician-pediatrician. This couple will be able to help them in building their parenthood and considering their newborn as a full human being and not only a sum of several medical problems.
